Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2
We are living in a time where perspective has become incredibly important. We’ve seen it play out in our politics, media, and our everyday opinions. One thing that is true from one perspective doesn’t always fit or make sense from another. For example, when it comes to our response to COVID what might be best for our health was actually detrimental for our economy. Which perspective was right?
Right?
This got me thinking of the ‘tension’ we can feel between our earthly perspective and God’s heavenly perspective. Often what God says is true can feel challenging from our perspective. Think of the heavenly perspective “if you give your life away, you get to keep it.” Its true, but in the short term it doesn’t always feel like it. When we already have a lot on our plate it seems counterintuitive to give our time to something or someone else, but we know the Father meets us in what seems impossible.
What makes this hard for us to grasp is that we often approach our life from an earthly perspective and try to squeeze it into a heavenly perspective. This is understandable as its the approach that is the must natural to us. However, this is not the way to approach life as a follower of Jesus. This is a quote I read earlier this week – sorry, I can’t remember the source.
If we aren’t coming from a heavenly perspective we will not have enough to deal with what’s happening on earth
This is where the verse from Colossians leads me too. When our heart is set on things above, from the view of our seat with Christ everything else comes into view in a totally different way. I guess we have to ask ourselves what things we need to change perspective on today.
