Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, because what they already had was more than enough to do all the work. Exodus 36:6-7
Every time I read this passage I always am struck by it. This comes after Moses is instructed to build the tabernacle and he has asked the Israelites to bring their offerings to the priests so they can begin planning the construction.
I talked in a previous post about how the people were ‘willing’ to give but we see in this part of the passage how generous they have been. So committed were they to giving to what Moses had asked for that they actually had to be restrained from bringing more.
RESTRAINED!
Can you imagine?
I’m getting images of people on a Sunday morning trying to put money in baskets during the offering but the pastors and volunteer teams tackling people to the ground because they need no more money! I wish we had that problem.
I just love hearing stories of this kind of generosity as it gives me faith of seeing communities that have this level of generosity!
