Ok then

The end chapters of the book of Job are some of my favourites. After lots of talk from Job’s comforters and Job himself, God answers Job in the most incredible way. He reminds Job of all that He has done and underlines who He is and His power. Its a pretty incredible list.

After He has done all of this we arrive at Job Chapter 42 where we find this passage;

Then Job replied to the LORD:“I know that you can do all things;
no purpose of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge? Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’ My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”
Job 42:1-6

I just love this.

I think of all the conversations I have had with people who have questioned or critized God and His goodness. I wish they would read these parts of scripture. If they did they would learn that ultimately all of our stuff and our complaints will end up in the same place, with us admitting that He is good and we are not!

Its not wrong to eagerly seek and search for God. It is not wrong to ask Him questions but it is important that me ask these from a posture of humility and not defiance it we don’t want to have to brace ourselves like Job!
