The Lords prayer

Whilst I didn’t grow up in a ‘churched’ context in terms of following Jesus, I did attend church services often when I was young. One of the passages I learnt, like many in my tradition, was the Lords prayer. I have prayed that prayer many times since I’ve followed Jesus but this morning as I was praying I was struck by how rich a prayer it was.

That seems like such a ridiculous thing to say, of course its rich! Its the prayer Jesus taught His disciples! I just think that years of mindlessly repeating it as a child emptied its power and significance from my life, regardless of how rich it was and is. However whether I knew it or not, the power of that prayer has been spoken by me and over me for years and I thank God for that.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6: 9b-13

Lets take time to pray and meditate on the truth of this today.
