The story of Abram/Abraham is such a key story in the scriptures and I love reading it. Today I was re-reading the original conversation that God has with Abram.
The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. ” Genesis 12:1–3
In human terms this was a huge ask. We don’t know if Abram was aware of God before then, never mind realising that God might speak to him. Leaving his home was a big deal especially when God hadn’t given him a destination. Added to all that the promises at the end would have been so difficult to understand and grasp.
What would Abram do?
We see what he did, beautifully summed up in 3 words at the beginning of verse 4
So Abram went……..Genesis 12:4a
So simple. So profound.
The faith that Abram showed in this moment is beautiful. So often we get tripped up on the whys and wheres that we miss out on what God is trying to do. What it we simply responded like Abram and just did what God said?
It was as Abram ‘went’ that the promises and Gods provision opened up. Even even it wasn’t a smooth road. Following the direction of the Father won’t always be clear or easy, it requires faith, but it we want more of Him, it will require more of us.
