It made a difference…

I do love the opportunity to teach. My greatest desire is that through studying principles from Gods word, and applying them to everyday life that we would, with the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, change someone’s Monday rather than just impress them on a Sunday.

So often we never get to hear whether that has happened or not but yesterday I experienced one of those precious moments.

In the summer I had given a talk on how Jesus was the same person in every situation. I talked about how His security wasn’t based on where He was or who He was with but in who He was created to be. I used an example of cycling to illustrate how so often we do the opposite.

When I cycle with people I am fitter than I feel like I am fit, strong and in super shape. When I cycle with people who are fitter than me I feel unfit, weak and in terrible shape. The truth is I am in the same shape regardless of who I am with. Our security shouldn’t be based on others was the conclusion.

So back to the encourging moment.

Someone in church stopped me and said that they had been meaning to talk to me for a few months about something. They said that the Friday before I’d given that talk they had been able to help a client save a lot of money in their work – it was a good day at the office and they felt good. However the Monday after the Sunday they heard that the client would not save this money. The person was gutted and initially felt dejected like thy had filed. Then they remembered the bike story and the teaching from Sunday so they told themselves,

“I am the same person today as I was on Friday”

In the end they were able to save the clients money but for them that was no longer the point. Something had shifted in them. Their point of security had moved. My heart jumped.

I’ve nothing more to say on this but I just wanted to share the encouragement!
