Who’s the real giant?

I had a realisation the other day as we were holding our Leadership and Compassion Sessions. We were in ministry time and I was asking the Lord what He wanted me to release and speak over the people in attendance.

I began to think about a prayer I had prayed in our services a few weeks ago about Giants. I had been praying that giants of faith would rise up and that the giants of brokenness would topple. As I was thinking about this the Lord revealed something to me.

I began quite naturally to think about David and Goliath. As many of us will know from reading that passage of Scripture, every day the giant Goliath would come out and taunt the Israelite army that his people were fighting against. He wanted someone to challenge him and whoever won would claim victory for their side. No one wanted to fight him. David, who was there to bring food for his brothers heard the taunt and was appalled. He decides to face the giant and defeats him.

As I reflected on the story I felt myself asking who really was the giant in the story. I realised that the real giant was…….

David’s Faith!

There was no doubt that Goliath was a formidable opponent but Davids faith was bigger. David looked at the facts, he wasnt ignorant of them, but decided that his God was bigger than this giant.

Supernatural faith is always better then natural facts.

It got me to thinking about the giants we are facing in our world right now; poverty, loneliness, faithlessness, addiction, racism, judgement, cynicism etc. They feel so big, so intimidating, that it can feel like they are taunting us. But our God is bigger, and therefore so should our faith.

How does that change our daily routines? How does that alter how we look at the insurmountable barriers that face us? I thank God that He is the giant in the story and He calls us to slay the other giants around us.
