I met Jesus when I was 17 which means that I’ve now followed Jesus for longer than I haven’t followed Jesus (that reads funny but makes sense). However I do remember what it was like to not live my life fully for Him. I grew up in a religious place, although not in a religious home. That means that I had a knowledge of God, and although I didn’t believe enough to be a Christian, I believed enough to pray when I needed something.
I find that concept interesting now. I often hear people who say they don’t really believe in God talk about praying. It’s like they hold prayer as a lucky alternative, something they don’t think works, but it just might. This isn’t a new concept and when I was reading Jeremiah the other day I came across the passage.
Zedekiah son of Josiah was made king of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he reigned in place of Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim. Neither he nor his attendants nor the people of the land paid any attention to the words the LORD had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet. King Zedekiah, however, sent Jehukal son of Shelemiah with the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to Jeremiah the prophet with this message: “Please pray to the LORD our God for us.” Jeremiah 37:1-3
The king had paid no attention to anything the Lord had said up to that point but interestingly when he was in difficulty he asked Jeremiah to pray for him.
I think its interesting for us to remember that as we live our lives out loud for Jesus. Often in our families, our workplaces, supermarkets or wherever else we inhabit we can often find that our attempts fall on deaf ears.
Or are they?
My suggestion is that they aren’t deaf at all, it just might not be the right time. I believe we will see breakthrough it we consistently live our lives for Jesus and continue to remind people who we are and who’s we are! I think there are lots of people of people in our world who pay no attention to what the Lord is saying to them but would like us to pray just in case.
