Worship music and worship leaders often take a lot of flack. I’ve heard many people take a swipe at the worship music ministry. Of course, like any aspect of church life there are, and will be, stories of people who weren’t genuine and who were in it for the money. There will be songs with theology that isn’t great and accusations of celebrity culture etc. Just as an aside, we have to remember the same could be said of preachers, prophets, administrators. evangelists and pastors.
However those moments/challenges are the minority in my experience. Most worship leaders and song writers I meet are genuine lovers of Jesus who want to lead others into a deeper relationship with Him. They don’t want to be worship leaders but they want to lead people into worship. They are simply expressing publicly what they have developed privately. They write more and more songs because there can never be enough songs to describe the beauty of God.
I am so glad they do!
I can’t tell you how often a song has helped me express my prayer and my longing for God in a way that my meer words couldn’t. I am so thankful for the song writers who have taken the time to wrestle those lyrics and melodies together. I’m so thankful to the worship leaders who have prayed over the worship sets that help to lead me into deeper relationship with Jesus.
So, worship leaders, song writers, thank you. Thank you for giving me language and songs that express my love and help me to give glory to God
