I remember catching up with my friend who I don’t see often. He leads a wonderful church and has influenced and helped so many people. When I saw him I asked“how are things?‘ His response caught me off guard, because he replied;
“What story would you like?”
He went unto explain how there were so many stories of God’s goodness, His provision, His generosity and faithfulness. However, there were also stories of heartache, pain, let downs and problems as well. Essentially he was asking which part I wanted to know about.
I choose the first option! (of course I was happy to talk about the hard stuff too!!)
This is so true of our lives though isn’t it? There are always two stories. Our job is to establish which stories we are going to focus on, which stories we tell. I’m not saying we ignore the challenging side of our story but I do believe we must be careful not to allow it to have too much influence over our lives. We don’t deny the problems existence but we can deny its influence!
So, what story will we tell today and which story are we going to give the steering wheel in our lives?
