God can give more than that

It’s hard for us to fully comprehend someone having limitless resources. We might know people who have money and assets, but their resource will have an end, it has a limit. Even the richest in the world reach a limit at some point.

God however has no limit. There is no limit to Him, no limit to His reach and no limit to His resource. As the Psalmist writes;

I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine
. Psalms 50:9-11 (NIV)

In my readings I have reached the reign of King Amaziah in Judah, who took over after his dad Joash. Overall he began pretty well. We are told that he gathered the people to get them ready for war against Edom. We are then told;

He also hired a hundred thousand fighting men from Israel for a hundred talents of silver. 2 Chronicles 25:6 (NIV)

At this stage Israel wasn’t living well with God and so a man of God came to Amaziah and told him that he needed to send the troops he had hired home because God was not with Israel.

Amaziah asked the man of God, “But what about the hundred talents I paid for these Israelite troops?” 2 Chronicles 25:9a (NIV)

I love that. Amaziah is looking after the wallet. He is rightly thinking but I’ve paid my money, can I get a refund? The man of God has a brilliant reply

The man of God replied, “The LORD can give you much more than that.” 2 Chronicles 25:9b (NIV)

That’s right, our God is a limitless God. We all know this on a head level but we rarely believe it, we rarely believe that God will come through, that He will supply when and what He says that He will.

What happened Amaziah? Well, he did send the men home, they were raging, and they went on to win the war. God supplied what they needed. Unfortunately it didn’t end well for Amaziah, as he turned his back on the man of God’s counsel and he was overthrown but he did learn a thing or two about God’s provision.
