So today is my 40th birthday. I’ll be honest, it’s hard to believe that I’ve been around for 40 years. When I was younger I thought when you were 40 you were O-L-D and now I’m here I still feel like a kid playing at being a grown up!
I decided to look back over the last ten years and make a small list of some things that have changed since I last passed a decade marker.
So, since 2011 when I turned 30………
- I’m more in love with my wife
- I have a son – he’s a bunch a fun
- I have a dog – she’s cute but it’s been a journey (an ongoing one)
- I’m more understanding of other peoples’ mistakes than I used to be
- I have a growing desire to be in the sun
- I’m less certain about ‘everything’, but I’m more certain than ever about a few key things
- I know Jesus way better but I have way more to learn than I thought I did
- I celebrate the moment more, rather than quickly moving on to the next thing.
- I’m fitter, healthier and lighter (to the tune of nearly 2 and a half stone)
- I’ve realised life is definitely more complex than it used to be and because of this I’m way more sympathetic towards anyone who is leading.
- I’m more generous with my money
- I’m less concerned about being better than everyone
- I still don’t like camping (I’ve not technically camped at all in the last 10 years but my dislike has still grown)
